Anna Bondar will play her first grass match this season in Bad Homburg and will also be taking part this tournament for the first time.
The world number 62 is clay court specialist and has only played 2 matches on grass all career, and is yet to win one.
Bondar was playing very well on clay prior to an injury halting her progress. She had reached the semifinal in Karlsruhe last month, followed by another semifinal in Rabat. But she had to withdraw due to an shoulder injury.
Bondar has been extremely impressive since the beginning of 2021 and is looking to cement her place in the tour. This is her first full season in the WTA main tour and is sitting only one place below her highest career rank.

Li Hoping to Turn Season Around
Ann Li returns to Bad Homburg, having reached the second round last year. She was actually close to winning the match against former Grand Slam champion Petra Kvitova but could not hold her nerves.
This will be Li’s fourth match on grass this season. She won a first round match in the Hertogenbosch against Ludmilla Samsonova as a 4/1 underdog. She lost to veteran Kirsten Flipkens in the second round and also fell to top seed Cori Gauff in the first round in Berlin.
The American is a very dynamic player and has a very aggressive game style. She is not having the best season as she is only 8-10 all year. Li is struggling to find consistency and has been unable to make any sort of deep runs.
Li has a very natural game on grass and will be hoping this grass swing will turn around her season.

Bondar has never won on grass, while Li is having a below par season and is low on confidence. However her win against Samsonova will boast her just enough and her aggressive game could take Bondar by surprise.
