Ons Jabeur v Belinda Bencic Head to Head

Bencic leads 2-1 although, both players have beaten each other once this season. The Swiss prevailed in their Charleston Open final encounter while Jabeur avenged that loss in the Madrid Open.

Fourth WTA Final for Jabeur in 2022

Top seed Ons Jabeur made her way to yet another final this season – this time by upsetting the rising American prodigy Cori Coco Gauff in straight sets. She took the match 7-6(4), 6-2 in an hour and 19 minutes – winning 76% of the points behind the first serve.

Her preceding victims in the tournament were Karolina Muchova, Alycia Parks, and Aliaksandra Sasnovich. The first two were dispatched in straight sets while Sasnovich was beaten after a comeback. With these wins, Jabeur has improved her tally to 29-9 this season.

Ons has had an impeccable year so far with three big finals across Charleston, Madrid, and Rome.

During these tournaments, she has beaten a handful of big names like Maria Sakkari, Simona Halep, Amanda Anisimova, Bencic, and Jessica Pegula. On the back of this consistency, she ascended to her career-best ranking as World No. 4.

Jabeur has also got a decent grass pedigree; she won the Birmingham Classic last year and later reached the quarterfinal at Wimbledon. Bencic also boasts of a good record on grass and will put up a solid challenge for her top-five player.

Bencic Aces Sakkari Test

Belinda Bencic had to work hard to earn the ticket to her second WTA final this season. She met the second seed Sakkari and fought her way with 6-7(6), 6-4, 6-4 in a little over three hours.

It was a close, fiercely-contested affair where the Swiss was pushed to the limit. She excelled only by the narrowest of the margins – winning a total of 121 points to Sakkari’s 114.

The World No. 17 now has a chance to make it 2-0 against Jabeur in tour-level finals but it won’t be an easy feat. Bencic, while enjoying a decent year, hasn’t been quite on the same level as her adversary.

Since that final in Charleston, her best result was reaching the third round in Madrid, Paris, and Den Bosch.

That said, Belinda has a superior pedigree with 15 singles finals to Jabeur’s 8. Five of those have come on the grass while this is Ons’s second such final on the surface. Plus, the 25-year-old was a finalist last season in Berlin and has a chance to finally go the distance this time.

Jabeur v Bencic Prediction and Tip

This is going to be a great match. Bencic is a formidable opponent who loves playing on grass while Jabeur is enjoying her breakthrough season and will hope to keep the tempo going.

The game can swing either way but we may very well be looking at another long affair.
