Nick Kyrgios’ wait for reaching a first final since 2019 continued on Saturday as he went down to Hubert Hurkacz in the semifinal of the Halle Open.
The Australian player had also reached the semifinals in Stuttgart, where he lost to Andy Murray and in Houston in April, where he was beaten by Reilly Opelka.
A six-time winner on the tour from nine finals, Kyrgios’s last appearance in a final saw him claim the Washington Open title three years ago.
Despite his three consecutive semifinal exits, Kyrgios will be happy about his form. Overall, he is 15-6 this season and 6-2 from the two grass court events played over the two weeks preceding the Mallorca Open.

Djere Struggles on Grass
A clay court specialist Laslo Djere doesn’t have a good record on grass courts. He was 2-6 on the surface before the start of the season and got another win in Halle after his first round opponent Henri Squire of Germany retired while trailing 3-4 in the first set.
Overall Djere has found the going tough this season. The Serbian player has a 12-13 season record, which includes a semifinal appearance in Marrakech and a quarterfinal finish in Adelaide.
Playing for the first time in Mallorca can he improve his grass court record? Seems unlikely though as he opens his campaign against a solid grass court player in top form.
