The Romanian’s most recent campaign, saw her beat Wang Qiang in the first round in Birmingham, but she was knocked out in the second round by another Chinese, Zhang Shuai. This was just her fifth main draw appearance at a tour-level grass-court event.
Ruse’s best on grass was a quarterfinal finish in Nottingham in 2019. She has made it past the qualifiers at Wimbledon twice, but hasn’t won a match yet.

Davis Looking to Start Well
Lauren Davis is 1-2 on grass this year.
The American fell in the opening round in Nottingham to Caroline Garcia, but won her first round match against Kaja Juvan in Birmingham. She took the first set of Camila Giorgi in the second round in Birmingham, but was beaten in the next two sets.
Davis, ranked no. 108 in the world, has a 19-22 overall record on grass at the tour level. She was a quarterfinalist in Eastbourne on her debut in 2014 and also made it to the Round of 16 in 2017.
The 28-year-old’s other accomplishments on grass include two third round appearances at Wimbledon, a semifinal finish in Nottingham last year.
Davis has a 7-9 season record on the tour this year and has featured in just one quarterfinal. How far can she go in Eastbourne?
