Monteiro Makes the Main Draw
World No. 96 Thiago Monteiro defeated Shang Jun Cheng 6-4, 6-2 in the second qualifying round on Sunday to enter the main draw. The Brazilian had beaten Britain’s Mark Whitehouse 7-6, 6-3 in the first qualifying round on Saturday.
Monteiro, who has reached three quarterfinals in Adelaide-2, Santiago and Belgrade this year, brings a 10-9 record into the tournament.
While the 28-year-old is vastly experienced on clay, he has a 1-3 tour-level record on grass courts. He may find it tough to progress in the tournament.

Although Humbert is not in best of form, he will fancy his chances against Monteiro. Expect the Frenchman to advance into the next round.
