Donna Vekic is off to a blazing start in Eastbourne as she demolished Dayana Yastremska 6-0, 6-2 in just 58 minutes. It was one of her most clinical matches of the season (combined with a hapless showing from Dayana).
With qualifying wins over Alicia Dudeney and Yuriko Miyazaki the past weekend, she has already built more rhythm to her game than Kvitova.
Sailing high on momentum, the current world number 93 Vekic reached the quarterfinal last week in Birmingham – all the way from the qualifying rounds.
It was one of her better moments on the tour since winning the Courmayeur Open last October. Vekic’s surgery-induced hiatus and recovery have led her to be more cautious on the tour and take things easy. This is only her 10th tournament of the season and her tally stands at 14-9.

Kvitova, Out of Sorts and Rhythm
Former World No. 2 Petra Kvitova is known to be an exceptional player – especially on grass. She has two Wimbledon titles and four other finals on the surface – alongside 30+ WTA final appearances.
This season, however, the 32-year-old has visibly struggled on the tour. It is evident from the fact that her best results on the circuit came in Dubai and Miami where she reached the quarterfinal. Moreover, Petra hasn’t played in a singles final since the Qatar Open last March.
Her tally in the last five tournaments is 1-5 with her recent most loss coming against Beatriz Haddad Maia in Birmingham in straight sets. Things are not looking good for her and taking on an in-form player like Vekic is going to be demanding.
Kvitova v Vekic Prediction and Tip
Kvitova has the advantage of being the superior player here in terms of the pedigree but her recent loss in form and momentum does not bode well for her. Vekic, on the other hand, is on a resurgent path and is coming off a good run on grass.
Backing her is certainly not the worst play but as we all know, Kvitova can surprise. Expect an entertaining affair that will likely see many games.
