Karolina Pliskova v Katie Boulter
Coming off a quarterfinal in Berlin last week, Pliskova will hope to improve her performance this week and starts off with one against the British player Boulter.
The former world number one looked to have done well enough last week but a defeat to Cori Gauff might not have played out well for her.
Her opponent, Boutlter, had been out of action for a few months but has returned to feature in three grass court competitions – winning the openers at each of them. A win over Tereza Martincova here would have given her a lot of confidence too but can she make things work for her against Pliskova? We think the gulf is too wide.
Pliskova is 2/5 to clinch this and that’s a safe bet worth going after. As far as the ease of win is concerned, it might not be that simple with Boulter expected to trouble her opponent. Either expecting a fighting, two-setter or a match that goes into the third.
Tip: Pliskova to win: 2/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
Holger Rune v Ryan Peniston
The British hopes could get pinned on to Peniston the manner in which he’s gone about his business recently. He won his first ever ATP main draw match at Queen’s Club last week and made it two in two after that. It included a victory over Casper Ruud.
Rune is a vastly-improved young player on the tour but has he done enough on grass?
Peniston has shown remarkable resilience in his life and in his career. And it is only fitting he gets to experience the adrenaline rush of winning matches at the highest level.
Given just how good he looked at Queens, I wouldn’t put it past him to shock us again in Eastbourne.
Tip: Peniston to win: 7/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
Sebastien Baez v Jordan Thompson
Baez has used his successes on clay to climb up to 36th in the world, having already won a title this year. On grass, his career record reads 0-1, with that match having come at the Wimbledon qualifiers last year.
Thompson had fallen off the radar but a solid run on grass, albeit on the Challenger circuit seems to have helped him no ends. He has a Challenger title in Surbiton, a runnerup plaque from Nottingham and has qualified for this competition for the loss of just four games over two matches.
No surprises then that he starts off 1/3 favourite here and against a player who hasn’t played too much on grass, we could be looking at a straight-set victory for the Aussie.
Tip: Thompson to win in straight sets: 8/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
