Alex de Minaur v Lorenzo Sonego Head to Head
They played twice before with de Minaur leading 2-0. Most recent one came in Eastbourne last year.

Defending Champion Alex de Minaur
Alex de Minaur played a fabulous tennis event in Eastbourne last year winning it. Funnily enough, in the final, it was Sonego who challenged him but the Australian proved better 4-6 6-4 7-6(5).
One year later they will face each other in the 2nd round with de Minaur having a far better year than Sonego. The Aussie player is 23-14 with several notable results as well as some solid wins on grass this year already. It’s his 3rd event on the grass and it’s been a mixed bag.
He’s beaten some solid players like Reilly Opelka and Cristian Garin but neither is good on grass. He lost to Adrien Mannarino in Den Bosch, Davidovich Fokina proved better in Queen’s last week and those are players he should theoretically beat.
Eastbourne is his comfort zone and one should expect a solid event once more. Sonego has had his struggles this year as well so Alex is favoured. He will need to play well but a 2-0 H2H against the Italian should give him confidence that he can pull it off once more.

Up and Down for Sonego
Lorenzo Sonego has quite literally had an up and down season. The Italian is capable of going from one excellent to terrible quite quickly. He was on the verge of beating Roland Garros finalist Casper Ruud in Paris but failed to close it out.
Those inconsistencies prevent him from becoming a top 10 players and his peak is not far from that. His serve can be incredibly hard to return, on grass particularly and his groundstrokes are both powerful and precise. The entire package is very good when everything is working.
It rarely does, however. He’s 15-16 on the year and 3-2 on the grass. A quarterfinal in Stuttgart and a 3-setter against Matteo Berrettini. A loss to Denis Kudla in Queen’s and now a win over Duckworth in Eastbourne. Sonego has always had an affinity for grass yet he’s been shakier than ever on it this year.
He should put up a solid effort here but I’m unsure if he can truly win the match. Keep reading to find out.
de Minaur v Sonego Prediction and Tip
Okay, so we have round two between these players in Eastbourne, quite literally. They played last year here in the final and de Minaur proved better winning a very close 3rd set tiebreak. This year Sonego has looked much worse than last year and I tend to think that will matter here.
de Minaur has been solid and if I had to pick a winner it would be him. Sonego just lacks the consistency to win this match. I could see him snatch a set, I quite expect it actually but that won’t be enough to win the match though. Take the Aussie.
Tip: de Minaur to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
