Sinner Kicks Off Grass Court Swing
Jannik Sinner will get a bit of prep before this year’s Wimbledon at Eastbourne International. The young Italian is making his main draw debut at the event in what will be his first grass-court match in precisely a year.
Sinner does not boast any notable achievements on the surface. Last year, his preparations for Wimbledon were significantly damaged by his inability to play through more matches on grass. He was beaten by Jack Draper at Queens before bowing out in the first round of Wimbledon to Marton Fucsovivcs.
But there were many career highlights for Sinner in 2021, such as accumulating four ATP titles and breaking the world’s Top 10 for the first time.
This year, expectations had gone through the roof at the start of it. Sinner is yet to win a title this season, but he has been playing some quality tennis. Only unfortunate injuries have prevented him from wreaking havoc in the main draw of the top-level tournaments.
Sinner has been forced to either retire or pull out from three high-profile matches including his fourth-round match against Andrey Rublev at the French Open.

Paul Fights Back to Down Cerundolo
Tommy Paul looked on the verge of shock first-round exit at Eastbourne against the Argentine clay-courter Francisco Cerundolo. However, he bounced back from losing the first set to win 4-6 7-6 6-4.
Paul was extremely passive in the first set. His serve was not picking the right spots, averaging at just about 50% of first serves. Cerundolo was feeding off the return games, breaking Paul twice in succession to establish an advantage that he would only relinquish once in the first set, before going on to win it 6-4.
In the second set, neither player was holding serve routinely. Both Paul and Cerundolo broke each other twice in quick succession. The set would go into a tiebreak where Paul demonstrated the gulf in rankings between the two players.
Having restored parity in the contest, Paul began to swing freely. He broke the Argentine to love at the start of the third set, and it was a lead that would last for the remainder of the match, to book his spot in the second round.
Sinner v Paul Prediction and Tip
Despite possessing some of the most destructive groundstrokes in the men’s game, Sinner looks like a shadow of the player that excels on other surfaces. Nonetheless, the young Italian should be able to hold off the American.
