Halep Rallies Past Siniakova
World No. 19 Simona Halep rallied past the Czech Republic’s Katerina Siniakova in the first round of the Bad Homburg Open.
The Romanian, who came back from a break down in the first set, was broken for a second time in the 10th game of the set as Siniakova took a one-set lead.
There was more pressure on Halep as the Czech player raced to a 0-3 lead in the second set. But the former No. 1 raised her level, winning the next nine games in a row to take the second and lead the third 3-0. Siniakova put up a gritty late fight to stay in touch, but the Romanian clinched a third break of the set to claim the contest 4-6 6-3, 6-4.
The win improved Halep to 4-1 on grass this season. The 2019 Wimbledon champion had won three matches in Birmingham before falling to the eventual champion Beatriz Haddad Maia in the semifinal.
This year, she captured her 23rd career title by winning the Melbourne Summer Set trophy. She will be looking to reach a sixth quarterfinal of the season on Wednesday.

Zidansek Rebounds to Down Hatouka
She was outplayed by Yuliya Hatouka in the first set, but Slovenia’s Tamara Zidansek regrouped and came back over the next two sets to beat the Belarusian 2-6, 6-1, 6-4.
While Zidansek dominated the second set, she had to fend off a gritty effort from the qualifier in the third. The Belarusian came back from a break down thrice in the third set, but the Slovenian got the decisive fourth break to seal victory in an hour and 44 minutes.
This was the World No. 58’s second win on grass this season. Zidansek had won one and lost one in ‘s-Hertogenbosch and made a first round exit in Berlin.
The 24-year-old, who was the semifinalist in Adelaide-2, has not won two matches in a row since featuring in the third round of the Australian Open. She did feature in the Round of 32 at the French Open, but had received a walkover in the second round at Roland Garros.
