Matteo Berrettini v Cristian Garin Head to Head

There have been three previous matches between these two players and Berrettini leads 2-1.

While Garin had won their first encounter which came in the 2019 Munich Open final, Berrettini defeated him in Shanghai that very year and then propelled past him on the clay courts of Madrid in 2021.

Berrettini Grass Dominance Makes Him Second-Favourite

While there’s no doubting Novak Djokovic starting out this edition of The Championships as an odds on favourite to go the distance, Berrettini will be the one player who could challenge the Serbian contender.

And this is despite Berrettini having only just returned to tennis circuit three weeks ago following a lengthy layoff.

Berrettini had suffered a hand injury in March which pushed him out of the tour for nearly three months but when he returned, on grass, the Italian number one played like he had never left.

The world number 11 has played nine matches since his return, and won each one of them which has also resulted in the Italian winning two ATP titles. And while he started off slowly, needing three-setters against Radu Albot and Lorenzo Sonego, over the next few matches one could see his rhythm return to its full flory.

Which is three successive straight-set wins to win Queen’s Club title surprised no-one.

He will be a heavy favourite for another fine showing in this opener.

Garin Has Had His Time on Grass

While clay is where Garin has played some of his best tennis, he has caused a few hiccups for his opponents in a couple of grass court competitions as well.

While this year Garin lost both his grass court matches in straight sets, he did make it to the fourth round at Wimbledon last season. The catch to that is he had a favourable draw there, and that saw him get the better of Bernabe Zapata Miralles, Marc Polmans and Pedro Martinez to reach the round of 16 at the 2021 Wimbledon.

There has been a 2019 Rosmalen Open tournament too where Garin was a quarterfinalist but again, his issues pop up against players of even slightly higher pedigree than him on this surface.

And Berrettini is one who belongs to that category. Garin doesn’t seem to have any weapons to trouble his opponent.

Berrettini v Garin Prediction and Tip

Expect a lazy stroll in the park for Berrettini, winning not just in straight sets but also having a bagel or a breadstick in it.

Tip: Berrettini to win in straight sets: 1/10 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
