Casper Ruud v Albert Ramos Viñolas Head to Head

There have been five previous meetings between these two which include one in the qualifiers of the Madrid Masters in 2019. Ramos-Vinolas leads 4-1 but all of these matches have come on clay and none after the Santiago Open of 2020.

Ruud Gunning for Maiden Wimbledon Win

The contrast in Ruud’s fortunes when it comes to playing on clay and other surfaces couldn’t be starker.

And while the Norwegian has looked like he is coming around in hard court competitions already, having reached the final of the Miami Masters earlier this year and possessing an 8-3 win-loss record, it remains to be seen how that translates on to grass.

Because coming into this tournament, Ruud has never won a round at Wimbledon and probably worse still, his only match on grass this season ended in a loss.

The newly-crowned world number five following his French Open exploits – he was a finalist in that tournament – suffered a straight-set reversal at the hands of the little-known Brit, Ryan Peniston in London.

Playing at the Queen’s Club competition two weeks ago, Ruud fell to a 7-6 (4), 7-6 (2) defeat to Peniston and following that, he will look to find ways to get some rhythm going on this surface.

Can that lead to his maiden Wimbledon main draw victory?

Ramos Viñolas Last Won in 2017

It’s been nearly five years since Ramos Vinolas won an ATP match on a grass court. Yep, the clay court specialist barely pays any attention to the other surfaces but even lesser to grass where he has had this horrible run where the Spaniard has failed to register a victory.

Wins over Jordan Thompson and Andrey Rublev had taken Ramos-Vinolas to the third round of that year’s Wimbledon but things have never remained the same.

An opening round loss at Wimbledon followed soon after in 2018, 2019, and 2021, with things getting worse in the last season as Ramos-Vinolas lost his openers at the Queen’s Club and Eastbourne competitions too.

This year, Ramos-Vinolas tried his hand at the Queen’s Club Championship again but Alejandro Davidovich Fokina got the better of him very easily.

Now while Ruud isn’t at his best on this surface, Ramos Vinolas’ own issues on grass could become a huge impediment anyway.

Ruud v Ramos Viñolas Prediction and Tip

This is a battle between two players who don’t relish playing on grass as much as they do on clay. And between them, Ruud’s younger legs should eke out a win over Ramos-Vinolas’ experience but might not be the most straightforward of victories for the Norwegian player.

Tip: Ruud to win AND Both players to win a set: 6/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
