Andreescu in her First SF of 2022
Former world number four Bianca Andreescu spent a fair bit of time on the sidelines due to her knee surgery and the subsequent recovery period. This also led to a loss in the form which caused the Canadian to drop out of the top 50.
She started the new season on a slow and steady note, only in April. Lucky for her, the 22-year-old is still young and has the benefit of time on her side. She has been building her form since – much to interesting results.
After early losses in Stuttgart and Madrid (round two, round three respectively), Bianca reached the quarterfinal in Rome. However, she then lost in round two in the French Open and Bett1Open – respectively to the giants like Belinda Bencic and Karolina Pliskova.
Now, Andreescu has reached the semifinal in Bad Homburg – the first such run for the current World No. 64 since her runner-up feat in the Miami Open 2021.
This week, she has dismissed a handful of in-form players – all in straight sets – like the French Open semifinalist Martina Trevisan, Katie Swan, and the number one seed Daria Kasatkina. This is classic tennis from Andreescu that propelled her to some incredible heights early on in her career.

Halep in with a Clinical Win
Simona Halep stormed into her second consecutive semifinal on the tour with a 6-2, 6-1 whitewash of Amanda Anisimova. With this win, she fired warning shots that she is here to stay for good and is a player to beat at the Wimbledon.
The Romanian needed just 55 minutes to tame the American youngster, dishing out an impressive 10 aces and winning 86% of the points behind the first serve.
Halep’s preceding wins in Bad Homburg have come against Katerina Siniakova and Tamara Zidansek. Last week, she reached the same stage in Nottingham before bowing out to Beatriz Haddad Maia in three sets.
Simona hasn’t won a title since the Melbourne 250 but has reached the semis in Dubai and Indian Wells, and the quarterfinal in Madrid.
Now ranked World No. 19, Halep has spent the season working with her new coach Patrick Mouratoglou, who has been responsible for reigniting the 30-year-old’s love for tennis after a year mired with injuries and the loss in form.
The partnership has worked well for Halep, who is now 26-8 and inching closer and closer to big titles.
Halep v Andreescu Prediction and Tip
Andreescu is still building her form and taking on Halep may prove to be too big a challenge. After all, the Romanian is playing some superb tennis and is bustling with confidence and momentum. On her part, Bianca can put up a solid resistance.
Expect a good match where Halep should come out at the end.
