Denis Shapovalov v Arthur Rinderknech Head to Head

It’s 1-1 from their previous meetings. Shapovalov won in the quarterfinals in Stockholm last year, while Rinderknech got his revenge in the last eight stage in Doha this year.

While the Canadian had needed three sets to win his match, the Frenchman won in straight sets.

Shapovalov on a Six-Match Losing Streak

Last year he made a stunning run to the semifinal of Wimbledon, but the 13th seed is heading to this year’s tournament in poor form.

Denis Shapovalov has a 16-14 record this season, but has lost the last six matches and is 0-3 on grass courts this year. Ranked No. 16, the Canadian has not won a match since losing to Casper Ruud  in the quarterfinals of the Italian Open.

In his three matches on grass this year, the 23-year-old lefty lost to Oscar Otte in Stuttgart, to Tommy Paul in Queen’s and to Benjamin Bonzi in Mallorca.

Although, Shapovalov has struggled in recent tournaments, he has an overall record of 11-15 on grass courts and had a terrific 8-3 run last season.

Can Shapovalov draw inspiration from his last year’s performance and arrest his slide in the opener?

Last year, the Canadian had beaten quality players in Andy Murray, Roberto Bautista Agut and Karen Khachanov en route the semifinal, before falling to Novak Djokovic in straight sets.

Rinderknech Lacks Grass Experience

Unlike Shapovalov, Arthur Rinderknech has won a match on grass this season, with that win coming over Ugo Humbert in the opening round in Stuttgart. He lost in the second round to Benjamin Bonzi though.

The Frenchman failed to qualify for the Halle Open after losing the first qualifying round to Marc-Andrea Huesler. So, he comes into the tournament with a 1-2 record on grass from all matches.

Ranked No. 61, Rinderknech has an overall record of 12-11 this season. He was a finalist in Adelaide-2, finishing runner-up to Thanasi Kokkinakis. He was also a semifinalist in Doha and he picked up his fourth Challenger title on clay in Poznan earlier this month.

Last year, Rinderknech had come through the qualifiers to make his main draw debut at Wimbledon, but he lost the opening round to Oscar Otte.

Can he earn his first main draw win this year?
