Shelby Rogers v Petra Martic Head to Head

American player, Shelby Rogers reached the semifinal of the Hertogenbosch Open in her first grass tournament of the season where she lost to Aryna Sabalenka.
She then faced a first round exit at the hands of Sorana Cirstea in Birmingham. Last week she reached the second round of Eastbourne with a win over Marie Bouzkova but was not able to overcome Viktoriya Tomova in the next match.
Rogers has reached the third round of Wimbledon twice in her career, in 2017 and 2021. Her career grass record is not good as she prefers to play on hard courts.
Although Rogers is 12-14 this year, she had two successful years in 2020 and 2021 and has been been able to sustain her ranking. She is currently only 3 places below her career high rank of 36.

Martic Seeking First Win on Grass this Year
Petra Martic has a good record in Wimbledon. She has reached the round of 16 twice, once in 2017 and the second time in 2019.
The Croatian has not been able to prepare well for this year’s championships as she faced two consecutive firs round exits in Birmingham and Eastbourne.
In Birmingham, she lost in straight sets to Aleksandra Krunic while in Eastbourne she lost to British player, Jodie Anna Burrage in three sets.
Martic has been struggling with her serve, a very important component to build up her drop shots and net game. Her ranking has also been slipping and she is currently sitting 66 places below her career high rank.

Rogers has a some wins under her belt heading into this first round clash while Martic has been struggling to find her game on grass this season. With the service issues Martic is having, Rogers should be highly favoured here to win.
