Daniel Galan did not play a single match on grass ahead of Wimbledon and that’s unusual because he generally does. His final match happened at the Parma challenger about 10 days ago against a native player who beat him. Galan is not naturally inclined towards grass but he can play well on the surface.
Last year he scored a win there over Federico Coria (0-3 all-time on grass) but he also took a set off of Lorenzo Sonego before losing in four. It’s been a fairly good year for him overall with a 29-16 record and he’s fairly close to getting back into the top 100.
The talent is there but the consistency is an issue as he fluctuates too much from event o event. It’s a problem for many player but his one is quite drastic. Once he settles at an event he can go deep but I don’t think he will become a grass expect overnight.

Koepfer Finally Healthy?
Dominik Koepfer played only 7 matches this year and he’s 2-5 in them. The German player has struggled with physical issues the entire year but he seems to be finally healthy.
It would be a good sign for him because he is so fun to watch he’s playing as good as he can. The lefty forehand is a beauty when it works and the serve is good enough as well. He will also be glad to be back on grass where he historically played some of his best tennis.
The signature serve + forehand combo worked so well for him in the past but a clear lack of form or any rhythm is notable. Koepfer came back in Den Bosch on grass but lost his opening match. That was his only match ahead of Wimbledon which makes me think he is not fully healthy.
You don’t know simply because player’s never tell the truth nowadays but I don’t see a reason why he did not play any more matches. Dropping on the rankings should be motivation enough for him.
Galan v Koepfer Prediction and Tip
At their best they are fairly similar players but on grass Koepfer is far better. He played way more matches and understand play on the surface much better. The problem is that he only played 7 matches and he lost five of those. You just can’t be sure whether he’s physically fit.
That will matter a lot because I don’t see either winning this in straight sets. As much as I like Koepfer and I think he should win this normally I’m going to side with Galan. I can’t back a player that I don’t think is fit enough to play. I might get burned because this is a bold play but yeah tread carefully here.
