Peterson Coming off a Layoff
Fitness has remained a concern for Peterson all season and that has resulted in the Swede playing in very few WTA tournaments all year. In fact, Peterson has appeared in only seven competitions in these six months and none on grass.
The last time she took to court was in Rabat in May, where she lost in the first round.
Peterson opted out of the Madrid and Rome Open competitions before missing the French Open as well.
Overall, Peterson has struggled on grass with her best performance at Wimbledon coming in 2018 when she made the second round. Last year, she featured in two tournaments on grass and lost both the opening round matches.
Can she stave off Karolina Schmiedlova’s challenge on her return to the circuit?

Karolina Schmiedlova No Better on Grass
If Peterson has obviously struggled on grass, things have been no better for Karolina Schmiedlova with the Slovak having never made it past the opening round of this tournament.
And that has translated into Karolina Schmiedlova opting not to play in any of the grass court events in the lead-up to this year’s Wimbledon either.
The Slovak last won a match on grass in Birmingham in 2015 – that’s right, more than seven years ago – and for her to take on an out of sorts Peterson could be a chance to change that record.
And yet, it won’t be easy given her lack of practice on grass this season.
Karolina Schmiedlova did make it to the semifinal in a WTA125 tournament in Makarska earlier this year but that might not count for a lot here.
Peterson v Karolina Schmiedlova Prediction and Tip
Peterson starts off a favourite but overall this seems more like a coin toss. The player who plays ‘less’ worse should scrape through.
Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/4 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
