After a rocky start to the year, former world number two Petra Kvitova has done well to stage a resurgence on grass and rediscover her form.
The veteran Czech built her form in Eastbourne last week where she upset the likes of Donna Vekic, Beatriz Haddad Maia, and Jelena Ostapenko to win her 29th singles title and compete in her 39th WTA final.
Up until then, her previous best results of the season entailed a quarterfinal run in Miami and WTA Dubai. Apart from these tournaments, Petra had to settle for early losses on the rest of the circuit – notably to the likes of Priscilla Hon, Sorana Cirstea, Irina-Camelia Begu, and Magdalena Frech.
Now ranked World No. 26, Kvitova will commence her bid for her third title at SW19. Things may be easy for her at the beginning but will get complicated as she is likely to run into Paula Badosa in round three, followed by Simona Halep next.

Paolini, with No Momentum
World No. 72 Jasmine Paolini did not participate in any grass tournament. Her best results in London include making it to the first round just once but never beyond in her last four attempts.
In fact, the Italian is coming on the back of poor results with first-round losses in the French Open, Italian Open, and Madrid Open – respectively to Begu, Jil Teichmann, and Ons Jabeur.
The entirety of Jasmine’s year can be marked with these runs (tally 9-12); the only time she won multiple matches was in Lyon and Indian Wells where she made it to round three.
With no reprieve in sight and grass not being her strong suit, it is hard to imagine her upset Kvitova here.
Kvitova v Paolini Prediction and Tip
Kvitova has momentum and that should help her make quick work of the out-of-touch Paolini. Expect nothing short of a straight-set victory from the number 25 seed.
