Jabeur Makes it Six in Six

A first round loss at the French Open notwithstanding, Jabeur has taken to grass court competitions like fish to water.

After winning the WTA Berlin title, she opted out of the singles tournament in Eastbourne to partner with Serena Williams in the doubles competition. And while she had to withdraw from it at the semifinal stage because of fitness issues, Jabeur has returned with a bang.

In her first round match here at Wimbledon, Jabeur registered a 6-1, 6-3 victory against Mariam Bjorklund with the match lasting a mere 55 minutes.

Jabeur won 81% of her first serve points but more vitally a whopping 85% of the second serves, and saved only the two break-points she had in the encounter.

In turn she broke Bjorklund four times – thrice in the first set and once in the second to wrap up the encounter and register her sixth successive win on grass.

Kawa Stuns Marino

It took Kawa three qualifying wins to get to the main draw of this year’s Wimbledon, just the second time in her career she was playing at a Grand Slam.

And coming up against Rebecca Marino who was a strong favourite to win the encounter, Kawa started out a 13/4 underdog in the match. She ended up with a shock 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 victory over Marino, thereby making it to the second round for the first time ever.

In a match that lasted two hours and 30 minutes, Kawa and Marino traded nine breaks of serves with the Polish player overcoming a 5-3 deficit to reel off four games in a row and clinch the match.

Against Jabeur, Kawa might need to do a lot better than get in a mere 54% of her serves if she wants to create an impression.

Jabeur v Kawa Prediction and Tip

Jabeur should continue to rule the roost and complete a facile straight-set win here.
