Isner Barely Through

John Isner needed to battle hard to get to round two of Wimbledon. Enzo Couacaud proved a very tricky opponent for the 37-year-old who needed 5 sets to win 3-hour match. It’s not advisable for Isner to play such long matches but getting into round two of Wimbledon is worth it.

The American is still a dangerous opponent because of his serve and on grass, it can be really dangerous. He fired 53 aces in that match-winning 84 % of points behind his first serve. Those things will suit him well going on but he won’t be happy about facing a strong return in Andy Murray.

It’s been a pretty okay year for Isner who is 14-12 so far with this match being the first one he played on grass. There was some rust there and it’s getting really tough for him to move well on this surface with his size. The French player had some solid moments but overall he lacked the skill to beat Isner.

He still came close so Murray should be bullish on this matchup.

Solid Start for Murray

Andy Murray struggled with his serve in the opening set against James Duckworth and he lost that set. After finding his serve he largely cruised in a matchup against a player that was overmatched.

Duckworth had some solid moments but for the most part, Murray was the better player. He returned well and did a lot of damage on the 2nd serve which is something he will need to repeat against Isner. There will be much fewer chances o he needs to be focused.

The win meant a lot to Murray who was injured leading up to Wimbledon not playing since Stuttgart. There was doubt whether he actually will get a chance to play at this event but he was able to recover in time. It seems like he’s fully healthy and there was nothing wrong in his game.

With each win, Murray will get more confident and dangerous. After all, he still believes he can win it.

Isner v Murray Prediction and Tip

The last match these two played was in 2016 and it’s been a long time since then. Both changed quite a bit but I still think the zero next to Isner’s name in this H2H won’t change. The American is solid but he’s facing a very tough challenge in Murray.

The Brit can run, he can defend well by sending many balls back and the return is good enough. If Isner needed five in round one to get through, this seems like a pretty impossible challenge for him.

Tip: Murray to win in four sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
