Peniston Makes Solid Wimbledon Debut

He has been around at Wimbledon for a couple of editions now but Peniston hadn’t quite managed to make it to the main draw before this. This time around, the Brit took full toll of the wildcard he received to storm into the second round on his Wimbledon debut.

The world number 135 registered a 6-4, 6-3, 6-2 win over Henri Laaksonen in his opening round encounter, needing exactly two hours to make it through to the next stage.

Such was Peniston’s dominance over Laaksonen, he faced no break-points in the first set and staved off all the four he did in the second.

It was only in the third, which proved to be his easiest of the match that a minor blip in focus allowed his opponent to break back once but Peniston retaliated with two more to wrap things up.

Peniston now has a chance to make the third round as he takes on a player who hasn’t had the best of seasons so far.

Johnson Lucky to Make Second Round after Dimitrov Withdrawal

Johnson was trailing by a set but looked like he could level things out against Grigor Dimitrov in his first round match when his opponent retired from the encounter.

Dimitrov needed to get his leg looked at in the second set and then opted to take no further part in the encounter, leaving the 37/10 underdog Johnson emulate his previous Wimbledon’s performance at the very least.

The American, who had failed to qualify for both, the Queen’s Club competition and Eastbourne International, thereby has a chance to get one step closer to his best Wimbledon performance – it came in 2016 when he had made the fourth round there.

With an 8-8 win-loss record in main draws of competitions before this Wimbledon, however, things might not be that easy despite taking on a player ranked more than 40 places behind him.

Peniston v Johnson Prediction and Tip

Johnson has been out of sorts all year and he is here because of his opponent’s injury in the opener. Expect a four or a five setter here.

Tip: Four sets or five sets in the match: 13/4 or 5/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
