Sinner Tames Wawrinka in Opener

While Sinner had started off a favourite in his first round match against Stan Wawrinka, one always knew things wouldn’t be that easy for the Italian given his opponent’s pedigree.

That he managed to get through in four sets with the match taking two hours and 42 minutes, was testimony to how far as Sinner come – from having never won a match at Wimbledon to clinch a 7-5, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory over Wawrinka.

Sinner won 77% of his first serve points while breaking his opponent five times even as he lost his own serve just once.

Before this, Sinner had featured in just one match on grass this year, where she lost to Tommy Paul in the first round of the Eastbourne International.

Can he now double his Wimbledon win count against an opponent who shouldn’t give him as much trouble as Wawrinka did?

Ymer Dismisses Daniel Out

There wasn’t much to choose between the two players, Ymer and Daniel Altmaier, at least as far as the betting odds went but the manner in which the Swede played, it looked like the bookmakers were widely off the mark.

Ymer registered a 6-3, 7-5, 7-5 win over Altmaier in a match lasting two hours and 28 minutes, eking out 17 break-points in the encounter and getting himself five breaks of serves.

The Sweden drew first blood in the fourth game and it proved to be a decisive break, allowing him to grab the set. Ymer then had a chance to serve out the second set too at 5-4 but dropped his serve, only to break back and make it two sets to love up.

Altmaier took the early 3-0 in the third set, and had his chance to pull one set back at 5-3 but Ymer then ran through her opponent to clinch the next four games and with it, the match.

Sinner could prove to be a different proposition, especially for Ymer who had won just one previous main draw match on grass.

Sinner v Ymer Prediction and Tip

Sinner, now that he has had the better of Wawrinka, should have no problems dismissed his Swedish opponent. Expecting a straight-set rout.

Tip: Sinner to win in straight sets: 11/10 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
