Djokovic Wastes No Time on Kokkinakis

Thanasi Kokkinakis would have seen Djokovic struggle a little against Soon-woo Kwon in his first round encounter and might have given himself bit of a shot here. Unfortunately for the Aussie, Djokovic came out with his A-game and carved out a neat victory that got him to round three.

Djokovic needed just over two hours to win 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 against Kokkinakis and set up this meeting with his fellow countryman.

Braving 11 aces from the Kokkinakis racquet, Djokovic made just 14 unforced errors and hit 29 winners in his easy victory. The top seed also faced just one break-point in the entire match and easily saved it while breaking his opponent’s serve five times en route that comfortable win.

His performance was a far cry from what had transpired in the first round against Kwon where Djokovic was broken in both the first two sets and faced crucial break-points later as well.

With Djokovic’s path to the final becoming clearer following the withdrawals from some of the players, it remains to be seen if anyone, let alone Kecmanovic can test the top seed.

Kecmanovic Tosses Tabilo Aside

It took him four sets and a little less than three hours alright but Kecmanovic made his place in the third round of Wimbledon for the first time in his career.

Kecmanovic was taken to two tie-breakers by Alejandro Tabilo in the process, before he came through 7-6 (4), 7-6 (3), 3-6, 6-3 to book his meeting with Djokovic.

Both players lost their serves three times each, but it was Kecmanovic’s ability to hold his nerve in the crucial tie-breakers that took him through, braving the 17 aces that his opponent hit in the process.

The world number 30, which is also his career-best ranking, had earlier lost both his opening round matches on grass – in Halle and Mallorca – but then came through in four sets in his opener against John Millman.

Can he put up a fighting display?
