2019 Wimbledon quarterfinalist Alison Riske fought back from a set down to end qualifier Maja Chwalińska’s run in her Grand Slam debut.
The World no. 36 was broken early in the first set by the Polish qualifier, who saved all three of the break points that she faced in the opening set to take a one-set-to-love lead.
Riske was also broken in the very first game of the second set, but the American made a resounding comeback, winning the next 12 games in a row for an emphatic 3-6, 6-1, 6-0 victory.
Riske won 29 of 42 net points. The 31-year-old also struck 39 winners and 34 unforced errors, in comparison to Chwalińska’s 18 winners and 25 unforced errors.
Featuring in the third round for a fifth time, Riske will now be aiming to reach the round of 16 for just the second time at Wimbledon.
She had begun her campaign with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Switzerland’s Ylena In-Albon. Wednesday’s win has improved the Nottingham Open finalist’s grass court record to 6-3 this season. Her overall season record improved to 18-13 from all matches.

Bouzkova Breezes Past Li
After upsetting seventh seed Danielle Collins in the opening round, the Czech Republic’s Marie Bouzkova continued to march forward in the tournament with a crushing straight sets win over another American, Ann Li in the second round on Wednesday.
Bouzkova converted 5 of 9 break points and saved four of four for a 6-0, 6-3 win. The one-hour-and-19-minute match saw both players hit 18 winners, but Bouzkova had 15 fewer unforced errors than Li.
This is now Bouzkova’s best Grand Slam performance. She had never gone past the second round of a major before.
The 23-year-old world no. 66 had begun her campaign with a solid come-from-behind win over 2022 Australian Open finalist in the opening round.
After registering back-to-back wins over two Americans, she now faces a third American in the next round. Can she keep the winning run going?

Riske is an extremely good grass court player. She has an overall record of 85-38 on the surfaces (across levels). Expect Bouzkova to put up a solid fight, but Riske should edge through in three.
