Juvan Continues to Impress

Slovenia’s Kaja Juvan entered the third round of Wimbledon for the second time after she knocked out Hungary’s Dalma Gálfi in the second round.

The 21-year-old, who is playing in the main draw of Wimbledon for the third time, had stunned the red-hot Beatriz Haddad Maia in the opening round on Monday. Juvan had beaten the World no. 28, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 in a close to two-hour contest.

Ranked no. 62nd in the world, Juvan was broken twice by Galfi on Wednesday, but she converted four of 12 to dispatch the World no. 89, 7-5, 6-3.

Juvan has a 10-6 record from all competitions on grass and her run to the third round of Wimbledon last year remains her best in the tournament.

Wednesday’s win improved the Slovenian to 22-13 this year, including qualifiers. Her best this year was a run to the final in Strasbourg. Can she win on Friday and advance to the fourth round  of a Grand Slam for the first time?

Watson Knocks Out Wang

Local hope Heather Watson knocked out China’s Wang Qiang in the Round of 64 on Thursday to march into the third round for the fourth time at Wimbledon.

Watson exchanged an early break with the Chinese player before getting a second break in the 12th game to win the first set. She also broke early in the second but couldn’t serve out the match at 5-3 with Wang breaking to stay alive in the contest. But the 30-year-old Briton broke back immediately to beat the World No. 140, 7-5, 6-4.

Watson, who has twice reached the mixed doubles final at Wimbledon, winning the title in 2016 and finishing runner-up in 2017, was also a quarterfinalist in doubles in 2018. She has however never gone past the third round in her 11 previous singles appearances.

She had begun the tournament with a come-from-behind win over Tamara Korpatsch, defeating the German 6-7 (7-9), 7-5, 6-2.

Watson is a solid grass-court player and has an overall record of 57-48 across levels on the surface. Can she make a fourth round debut this year?

Juvan v Watson Prediction and Tip

With two solid wins, including one over the in-form Beatriz Haddad Maia, Juvan is looking in great touch. She could end the Briton’s dream of progressing to the round of 16.
