Angelique Kerber v Elise Mertens Head to Head
It’s an advantage to Mertens who last beat the German in the 2019 WTA Doha semifinal in three sets.

So Far So Good for Kerber
Former world number one Angelique Kerber started her Wimbledon campaign on a strong note with straight-set wins over tricky opponents like Kristina Mladenovic and Magda Linette. She is now 13-10 in 2022.
It is not entirely surprising for her as this major is her strongest one; she has two finals and two semifinals in London – including the one last year.
Now ranked #19, Kerber finds herself on a resurgent path with deep runs in her last few tournaments. Her most recent one was in Bad Homburg (her only grass event) where she fell to Alize Cornet in three sets. Nonetheless, it was a good primer for the 34-year-old, competing in her 13th Wimbledon.
In both her matches this week, Angelique has enjoyed a disciplined game committing half as many unforced errors as her opponents. That said, she can benefit from upping her winners game as the competition is set to pick up soon.

Mertens Survives Udvardy
Doubles number one Elise Mertens has struggled visibly on the singles circuit of late (16-13).
Her three grass events in early exits where she managed just one win. More notably, the losses were against lower-ranked players such as Caty McNally, Alison Van Uytvanck, and Kirsten Flipkens.
That’s why it was not an unreasonable thought that the number 24 seed would fall early. She did come close to some extent – with Camila Osorio, she benefited at 1-6, 6-2, 4-2 (retired) with Osorio winning her first grass set of the season.
Against Panna Udvardy, the two-day match went 3-6, 7-6(5), 7-5 with the third set taking place on Thursday due to weather delay. Had it not been for the break in momentum, Udvardy could have carved the upset.
On the whole, Mertens has made it deep in a few tournaments this year and has some momentum to her form. She has also made it to the round of 16 in her last three majors but her inconsistency remains an issue.
Kerber v Mertens Prediction and Tip
Kerber is likely to be another tough match but Elise has some experience to leverage. Expect another tight affair with Angelique the slight favourite; backing Mertens wouldn’t be the worst play either as an upset is certainly on the cards here.
Tip: Kerber to Win, Over 21.5: 11/7 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
