Nadal Stretched to Four Sets Again

For the second match in a row, Nadal wasn’t at his fluent best and yet came away with a four-set win.

The French Open winner this year, who had needed a four-setter against Francisco Cerundolo in his first round, overcame Ricardas Berankis 6-4, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 to move into round three where the competition could get stiffer.

In a match lasting over three hours and having been suspended at times because of inclement weather, Nadal was broken twice but managed to keep his composure throughout the encounter.

It came down a small margins in the end after both players hit 35 winners, while Nadal made four more unforced errors in the entire match than Berankis. At crucial stages in the match though it was Nadal’s experience that shone through.

Against Sonego though, Nadal will need to lift his game.

Sonego Continues to Impress on Grass

For the second match in a row, Sonego looked like he was in control for most part of the match, and unlike in his opener, he even managed to finish it off in straight sets.

Sonego, who had needed five sets against grass court specialist Denis Kudla in his first round, dispatched Hugo Gaston in straight sets to seal his third round meeting with Nadal.

In a match lasting two hours and 32 minutes, Sonego completed a 7-6 (4), 6-4, 6-4 victory over Gaston. The Italian player faced no break points in the first two sets of the encounter, and by the time he was broken for the first and only time in the encounter, it was when he was two sets to love and 4-1 up in the third set.

He held on to his serve the next two times to seal off the match.

Sonego had earlier made the quarterfinal at Stuttgart Open and while he lost his opener at Queen’s Club, he did win a round at Eastbourne.

Can he put up any kind of a challenge for Nadal?

Nadal v Sonego Prediction and Tip

Twice now one would have thought Nadal should have done better than to drop a set to his opponent. Sonego has a higher pedigree to him than Nadal’s previous two opponents, which is why we think he could be more of a challenge to the Spaniard and could take a set off him. Nadal to still win.

Tip: Nadal to win AND Both players to win a set: 8/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
