Stefanos Tsitsipas v Nick Kyrgios
Stefanos Tsitsipas and Nick Kyrgios played in Halle this year on grass and it was Nick that won that match in three sets. Tsitsipas took the opening set after some late-set shenanigans from Kyrigos but that match taught us a very valuable lesson.
On grass, it is Kyrgios who is the better player because when he finally got serious he outplayed Tsitsipas. He didn’t even face any issues to be fair. The only reason he lost the opening set was the serve of Tsitsipas which did wonders in the almost indoor atmosphere of Halle.
At Wimbledon, we’ll see a different story. There is wind and all kinds of different factors. Both of these players had rocky starts to the event dropping sets. The 2nd round saw them win the match without dropping a set but Kyrgios was far more impressive.
He’s looking good, he admitted that he is feeling very confident following that round one comeback win and the draw has opened very nicely for him. I think he’ll win this match and actually, I think he might not even drop a set. It’s a bold call but back Kyrgios to keep it in straight sets.
Tip: Kyrgios to win: 4/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
Rafael Nadal v Lorenzo Sonego
It took three years to finally get Nadal back to Wimbledon and while he’s been playing okay it’s not looking as impressive as some thought it might. A couple of painful faces during the match against Berankis made fans believe the foot is acting up again.
Nadal did not say a thing but twice now, he’s been unable to finish matches in straight sets. The added strain on his body is something he might want to avoid but that could be a problem against Sonego. The Italian has played some decent tennis leading up to Wimbledon and he can be quite dangerous on these courts.
A powerful serve and a forehand that can do damage as well is all that he needs on grass really. Beating Kudla in round one was a good win for him and it injected him with confidence ahead of his clash with Gaston. The French player is not a natural fit on grass and Sonego cruised.
They never played before which could make things quite interesting because Nadal is vulnerable. Obviously, his game should improve some of these days but I think Sonego has a decent chance to win a set against the Spaniard.
Nadal did not look too impressive in either of the previous matches and I don’t think things will magically change now. I do expect him to win but not in straight sets. Sonego should get at least one, perhaps even two but is unlikely to win. That would be a major shocker.
Tip: Nadal to win AND Both players to win a set: 8/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
Jack Sock v Jason Kubler
This is not a matchup many fans expected to see in round 3 of this year’s Wimbledon. But here we are and both of these players deserved to be here. Jack Sock is trying to resurrect his career after it was devastated by injuries and on grass this year he seems to have found something.
Three rounds of qualifying were good enough to build some confidence and familiarity with the conditions and it suited him well in round one. In round two he took two Maxime Cressy who is playing the best tennis of his career. Rain played a factor in that one helping Sock but he also played really well.
Now he faces a player who is also enjoying a lot of o success this year. Kubler has been a decent player for a long time but he seems to have found something else this year. It started with some strong showings on clay and it translated to grass. His draw is what got him here.
Yes, the win over Dan Evans in round one was a good one but the British player has never looked that great on grass and he’s played shaky this year on the surface as well. Then he got an easy opponent in round two beating him in straight sets.
This one will be close but I expect Sock to win. He might need four sets, or even five but he should get it done. Playing for the 3rd day in a row will be a factor as well.
Tip: Sock to win: 8/15 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
