Alcaraz won their only tour-level meeting in Paris last year. He also won their only meeting at the lower level in Alicante in 2019.

Alcaraz Powers Past Otte

Ever since battling past Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff in the opening round in a dramatic five-setter, Carlos Alcaraz has lifted his game and has gotten better with the tournament.

The evidence of that could be seen in his most recent win over 32nd seed Oscar Otte in the third round on Friday. Alcaraz wasn’t broken by the German, having saved the only break point that he faced. The Spaniard however converted six of 20 break points in the match for a 6-3, 6-1, 6-2 victory in an hour and 38 minutes.

Both players won plenty of net points with Alcaraz winning 25 of 30 while Otte won 21 of 37.

The win was the 19-year-old’s 35th victory of the season. The World no. 7 has already won four titles this year in Rio, Miami, Barcelona and Madrid.

Alcaraz, who could only reach as far as the second round on his Wimbledon debut last year, is a different player this year. He showed nerves of steel in his 4-6, 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 victory over Struff in the first round and then defeated the Netherlands’ Tallon Griekspoor 6-4, 7-6 (7-0), 6-3 in the second round. Having completed a convincing win in the third round, he will feel a lot more confident going into the Round of 16.

Can he reach a third major quarterfinal with a win on Sunday?

Sinner Eases Past Big-Serving Isner

John Isner broke Ivo Karlovic’s world record of 13,728 aces on Friday, but that wasn’t enough for him to progress as he was outclassed by Italy’s Jannik Sinner in the third round.

Having started the match four aces behind the world record, Isner struck 24 aces in the match. However, the world record was the only thing for him to cherish during the two-hour-and-20-minute contest, which was dominated by the 20-year-old Italian.

Sinner didn’t face a single break point in the match, while he converted 2 of 4 to win 6-4, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3.

Having bowed out of the first round on his debut last year, Sinner has scored his first three wins at Wimbledon this year. The 10th seed began with a 7-5, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory over Stan Wawrinka in the opening round. He also needed four sets to win his second round match against Mikael Ymer, beating the Swede 6-4, 6-3, 5-7, 6-2.

The World No. 13 is 30-8 this season. Can he add another win to that record in the next round?
