Alize Cornet v Ajla Tomljanovic Head to Head

The tally stands at 2-2; things have been neck and neck. Tomljanovic won their last match here in 2021 in three sets.

Cornet Knocks Out Swiatek

In the 2014 Wimbledon, Alize Cornet knocked out the then World No. 1 Serena Williams in three sets to reach round four – only to lose to Eugenie Bouchard.

Eight years later, the 32-year-old has experienced a deja-vu of sorts – this time by beating the in-form number one Iga Swiatek – and thus halting her 37-match winning streak.

Alize’s previous victims include Yulia Putintseva and Claire Liu – both of whom she dispatched in straight sets. Impressively, she maintained the same rhythm with Iga by beating her 6-4, 6-2. With these wins, the Frenchwoman has improved her yearly tally to 15-15.

A good chunk of Cornet’s wins have come in the majors – she was a quarterfinalist in the Australian Open and later reached the R16 in Paris. She has done the same in London and in the process, has recorded her best Grand Slam performance in a season.

She also featured in the semifinal in Bad Homburg, thus joining an elite few who enjoyed a decent grass swing.

Tomljanovic, Shining at Wimbledon

Last season, Ajla Tomljanovic reached her maiden major quarterfinal – right here after moving past Cornet, Jelena Ostapenko, and Emma Raducanu.

This time around, the Aussie has maintained the same trajectory with victories against Jil Teichmann, Catherine Harrison, and the number 13 seed Barbora Krejcikova. Ajla was in form when she played the mighty Czech, a former world number two and beat her 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.

Now ranked #44, Tomljanovic has had an erratic year with only a handful of deep runs. Her most recent one was in Nottingham and before that, Rabat and Istanbul. She is 18-16 as of Sunday.

Cornet v Tomljanovic Prediction and Tip

Not a whole lot separates the two players; Cornet is just seven places above Ajla and form-wise, is in a similar tide. That said, Alize is more experienced and has got a more impressive record against the top 10 players over her long, rich career. Backing her wouldn’t be the worst play to make.

Tip: Cornet to Win, Over 20.5 Games: 11/8 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
