Kyrgios Takes Down Fourth Seed Tsitsipas

Nick Kyrgios is playing at a very high level at the moment and the Aussie seems well placed for a rare deep run at a major.

The two-time Grand Slam quarterfinalist is one win away from making the last eight of Wimbledon for a second time after he won a tense third round encounter against Stefanos Tsitsipas.

In what turned out to be a dramatic contest, Kyrgios got into the Greek’s nerves with his antics. Tsitsipas won the first set in the tiebreak, despite being the second best for most part of the set, but Kyrgios’s constant complaints and chatter put him off.

The Greek hit a couple of shots aimed at Kyrgios’s body and the latter wanted him defaulted after he hit one ball into the crowd.

Amid all the drama and chatter, Kyrgios produced some top class tennis, which included a between the legs underarm serve. After three hours and 14 minutes, Kyrgios topped the World no. 5, 6-7 (2-7), 6-4, 6-3, 7-6 (9-7).

This was the second three-hour-plus contest for the World no. 40 in this year’s Wimbledon. He needed three hours and eight minutes to dispatch Britain’s Paul Jubb in a five-set first round.

He had a relatively easy second round, as he eased past 26th seed Filip Krajinović 6-2, 6-3, 6-1.

The 27-year-old is now 19-6 for the season and 10-2 on grass. He was a semifinalist in Stuttgart and Halle and he seems poised for another deep run in this tournament.

Nakashima’s Unexpected Run Continues

There weren’t much expectations from Brandon Nakashima on grass, but the American continued to surprise as he reached the fourth round of a major for the first time with a straight sets shellacking of Daniel Elahi Galán in the third round.

The 20-year-old wasn’t broken by Galan, while he converted 4 of 16 break points to win the one-hour-and-51-minute contest 6-4, 6-4, 6-1.

Nakashima had needed four sets to win his opening two rounds, with his second round win coming over last year’s semifinalist and 13th seed Denis Shapovalov.

Nakashima had beaten Germany’s Nicole Kuhn 6-3, 6-7 (1-7), 6-3, 6-2 in the opening round before edging past the Canadian 6-2, 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (8-6). He now runs into a top class grass court player, who is playing his best tennis at the moment. It will take a massive effort for the American to topple the Aussie.

Kyrgios v Nakashima Prediction and Tip
