Norrie Makes First Major Quarters
Cameron Norrie reached the fourth round of a Grand Slam for the first time in his career after the World no. 12 scored a convincing straight sets win over American Steve Johnson.
The Briton has been building on his resume since last year, becoming the number one British player, winning the Indian Wells Masters 1000 last year, lifting trophies at Delray Beach and Lyon this year and being runner-up in Acupulco as well.
Although his start at the Championships did not look as assured in week one, with a close escape against Spain’s Jaume Munar, Norrie seems to be getting it together at the right time.
Up against American Tommy Paul in the round of 16, it was expected to be a close encounter with the American himself being in good touch of late.
One break of serve early in the first is all Norrie needed to claim the set and it looked like that would be sufficient in the second too. However, Paul broke back to level the second set at 5-5 just as the number nine seed was looking to close out the set.
Norrie broke back immediately for a 6-5 lead and there was no looking back after that as he closed the set 7-5.
An early break in the third for Norrie looked all but over for the American and the British number one held well for a straight sets win and a first major quarter-final, and nowhere better than in front of his home fans.

Goffin Wins Epic Tiafoe Encounter
A quarterfinalist in 2019, the Belgian had bowed out of the Round of 16 in 2015 and 2016.
It has been a sort of a comeback season from Goffin who was once ranked in the top seven in the world back in 2017. This season has seen Goffin lift a sixth ATP title, by winning in Marrakech.
This week, Goffin started with a 6-2, 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) victory over Radu Albot and he added another straight sets win in the second round, defeating Argentina’s Sebastian Baez 6-1, 6-2, 6-4.
In the third round against the Frenchman Ugo Humbert, Goffin dropped the first set but came back strong to close the match 4-6, 7-5, 6-2, 7-5.
It was an enthralling contest in the round of 16 against American Frances Tiafoe. The match was off to a tight start, with Goffin edging out the American 7-3 in the first set tiebreak.
Tiafoe came back strong with both the second and third sets being tight, but the American broke at the right junctures to take both sets 7-5 each.
A strong comeback followed from the Belgian to take the fourth set 6-4 and with the match in a decider it was anybody’s game before Goffin upped the ante when needed to close out a 7-5 win in the decider and book a place in the final eight of Wimbledon again.
Norrie v Goffin Prediction and Tip
An unexpected Wimbledon quarter-final between two players with extreme grit awaits us. While neither has the typical grass court game, both have impressed plenty in the last week and earned their spot in the last eight.
Expect a hard fought battle but the home crowd will come to Norrie’s advantage as the Briton should prevail in a four-setter.
