Novak Djokovic (1) vs Jannik Sinner (10)

Novak Djokovic had a slight hiccup in the fourth round against a very talented Tim van Rijthoven.

The Serb dropped the second set, but bounced back pretty quickly to edge out a Wimbledon debutant.

In the first four rounds, he only faced one seeded player in Miomir Kecmanovic, but now he is waiting for the biggest test so far.

Coming into Wimbledon, no one would say that Jannik Sinner is one of the biggest contenders.

He’s never won a match at Wimbledon and he lost the only preparation match on grass. Obviously, that didn’t play on the mind of the young Italian, as he took out Stanislas Wawrinka, Michael Ymer, John Isner and finally Carlos Alcaraz.

His performance against Alcaraz was near-flawless in the first set. In the remaining three sets, Alcaraz started figuring out Sinner’s game, but couldn’t solve the puzzle in the end.

Is Sinner capable of another surprise or is Djokovic continuing his path towards Grand slam title no.21?

Ons Jabeur (3) v Marie Bouzkova

Ons Jabeur is the highest ranked player in the women’s draw and the player to beat for the third major of the year.

She surpassed the first three rounds, dropping just 13 games in three matches, before she had a titanic clash with Elise Mertens.

Even though Jabeur won in straight sets, it was after a tough 7-6 (11-9), 6-4 battle. Standing in the way of her first Grand slam semifinal is Czech Marie Bouzkova.

In the first three rounds, Bouzkova took out three American’s. She started off with a tight three-setter against Danielle Collins 5-7, 6-4, 6-4.

Later on, she dismissed Ann Li and Alison Riske, leaving them with a combined total of eight games. In round 4, she took out Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia in straight sets and gave a very emotional speech.

This is the first time that she passed the second round at a Grand slam and now she is in a position to play for the semifinals.

Cameron Norrie (9) v David Goffin

Home-crowd is going to be delighted, as Cameron Norrie tries to become the first British semifinalist since 2016, when Andy Murray won the title.

Norrie, who was yet to make a fourth round appearance at a major, got to the last 8 with some solid performances. First, he took out two Spaniards and then two American’s.

All of his opponents were ousted in straight sets, except for Jaime Munar in round 2, as that match went to distance.

Waiting for his chance to silence the All-England club is David Goffin. The Belgian has always been a dark horse, as he is a three-time major quarterfinalist.

He made some comfortable wins in the opening rounds, before facing Frances Tiafoe.

The American was the favorite, but Goffin never gave in and finally sealed the win in 4 hours and 37 minutes with 7-5 in the fifth.

This is a true David v Goliath battle and it will show whether Cam Norrie is ready for Grand Slam success or is Goffin ready to pull another upset?

Honorable mentions

Tatjana Maria v Jule Niemeier – in an all-German encounter, both ladies have had ups and downs through the tournament. Is Maria making a roar at the sunset of her career or is Niemeier setting ground for hers?
