Rafael Nadal (2) vs Taylor Fritz (11)
Top seeded Novak Djokovic dodged a bullet on Tuesday, prevailing in a tough five-setter against Jannik Sinner. Rafael Nadal is now on gun point, as he plays a rematch of Indian Wells final against Taylor Fritz.
After he lost two preparation matches on grass, the American got it together just before Wimbledon by winning the title in Eastbourne. He is yet to drop a set at this year’s Wimbledon, but truth to be told, he didn’t have high-profile opponents yet.
On the other hand, we have Nadal who is still chasing his ‘’Calendar Grand Slam’’. Rafa lost a set in both his opening round matches, before raising his form to defeat Lorenzo Sonego and Botic Van de Zandschulp in straight sets.
The two played twice, both times in the finals and in straight sets. Nadal won in Acapulco two years ago, while four months ago, Fritz won in Indian Wells.
Fritz was yet to make a fourth round appearance at a major before this year’s Australian Open. Now, he is in the quarterfinals looking to take down Nadal in another important match. Does he have what it takes to take out the 22-time Grand Slam champion again? We’ll have to wait and see.

Simona Halep (16) v Amanda Anisimova (20)
Simona Halep is a two time Grand Slam champion and didn’t she look flawless in her fourth round win against world no.4 Paula Badosa? She lost only 22 games in four matches so far and is looking in great form ahead of the final stages of the tournament.
Amanda Anisimova broke through her shell after coming back from a set down against fellow American’s Lauren Davis and Coco Gauff. In the fourth round, she dismantled Serena Williams’s conqueror Harmony Tan, losing just five games.
In 2019, the 18 year-old American took down Halep in straight sets of the quarterfinals at Roland Garros. A year later, Halep got a chance to get revenge at the same tournament and took it with a 6-0, 6-1 victory. Just two weeks ago, playing in Bad Homburg, Halep let the American take only three games.
Can Anisimova now take revenge over the former world no.1 and make her second semifinal by taking out the same opponent as the first time?

Cristian Garin v Nick Kyrgios
Cristian Garin had a lot of luck when Matteo Berrettini withdrew from the competition, as they were set to face in the opening round. He took his opportunity by trashing his first two opponents in straight sets. He went on to beat Jenson Brooksby in four sets, before pulling a Houdini act.
In the last 16, he was down two sets to null and then a double match point in the fifth set against Alex De Minaur. The roller coaster didn’t end there as the Aussie went for a 5-3 lead in a fifth set tie-break, before the world no.43 won six straight points. He converted his second match point and sealed his first Grand Slam quarterfinal.
On the other hand, his opponent has played his first major quarterfinal here at age 19. In 2014, Kyrgios stunned everyone by defeating Rafa Nadal in the second round, who could be his semifinal opponent.
The ‘’bad boy of tennis’’ hasn’t played a quarterfinal since AO in 2015. He survived two five-setter’s in the first and fourth round, trashed Serb Filip Krajinovic and played an epic that everyone is still buzzing about against Stefanos Tsitsipas in round 3.
You never know with Nick Kyrgios, but it seems he got his act together. Enough to push through to his first major semifinal? We’ll see.
Honorable mentions
Elena Rybakina (17) v. Ajla Tomljanovic – both ladies have incredible grass-court games. We’ll see who’s second career quarterfinal appearance can give them their first semifinal showing at the majors.
