Simona Halep v Elena Rybakina Head to Head

Halep leads 2-1, last beating Rybakina in the 2021 US Open with 7-6(11), 4-6, 6-3 in what proved to be an incredible third-round contest.

Halep Dismisses Anisimova

It was a routine win for the former world number one Simona Halep on Wednesday as she defeated Amanda Anisimova, seeded 20, 6-2, 6-4.

The Romanian has been absolutely clinical in London these last 10 days as she marches on imperiously towards her second final at SW19. The last time she was here (2019), she moved on to win the title beating Serena Williams 6-2, 6-2 in the final. Halep dropped just one set in the entire tournament.

This time too, Simona has been on a brilliant trajectory as she beat Karolina Muchova, Kirsten Flipkens, Magdalena Frech, and Paula Badosa in straight sets to go deeper. Throughout the campaign, the number 16 seed has maintained a strong service game with fewer unforced errors.

She also arrived heavily prepared for the tournament with consecutive semifinal stints in Birmingham and Bad Homburg and a ranking of World No. 18.

Halep is now 31-8 and one win away from her second final of the season. More importantly, she has rediscovered her passion for the game and washed away her lacklustre, uninspired rut from the previous year that knocked her out of the top 20.

Rybakina Makes her Grand Slam SF Debut

Elena Rybakina is on cloud nine at the moment, having just posted her best Grand Slam results.

It is a shame that there are no ranking points in play; the number 17 seed would have benefited from the boost and gotten a step closer to her career-best ranking of #12 (achieved only in January this season).

Rybakina is now ranked at the 23rd spot, largely owing to fitness concerns. Since reaching the final in Adelaide International, her form took a slight blow due to health concerns. She failed to deliver in the early tournaments and it wasn’t until the American swing that we saw some semblance of rhythm in Rybakina’s game.

It was still erratic as the quarterfinal run in Indian Wells was followed by early defeats in Miami, Charleston, and Stuttgart. In the following WTA 1000s and the Roland Garros, the 23-year-old lost in the third round.

It was the same story on grass as she fell early in Den Bosch and Eastbourne.

But in Wimbledon, Rybakina has been a class apart. Her list of conquest contains Coco Vandeweghe, resurgent Canadian Bianca Andreescu, and Qinwen Zheng – all in straight sets. She defeated Petra Martic 7-5, 6-3 and followed it with a resilient, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 win over Ajla Tomljanovic in the quarters.

Halep v Rybakina Prediction and Tip

Halep is the heavy favourite here owing to her superior experience, pedigree, and form.

Rybakina, however, is a threatening player by all means. She has eight career finals and an impressive resume against the top 20 players on the WTA Tour. She will fancy her chances but will need to bring her best foot forward.

The match may see a fair bit of games and Halep is likely to be tested – nonetheless, she should ultimately prevail.

Tip: Halep to Win, Over 20.5 Games: 3/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
