Ons Jabeur v Elena Rybakina Head to Head

Jabeur leads 2-1; they last met in the 2021 Chicago 500 where she reached the final after Rybakina retired in the second set citing fitness concerns.

Rybakina Makes her Major Final Debut

Elena Rybakina, age 23, has achieved the highly coveted feat of reaching a Grand Slam final. Going by how she has fared in her career so far, a run like this was only a matter of time for the Kazakh.

The number 17 seed has been brilliant in London these last two weeks. She made it to the quarterfinal without losing a set – knocking out the likes of Coco Vandeweghe, Bianca Andreescu, Qinwen Zheng, and Petra Martic. In the elite-eight round, she survived Ajla Tomljanovic 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 while in the semis, she carved a momentous upset by beating the former champion, the resurgent Romanian Simona Halep.

It was a clinical performance by Rybakina against Halep as she won 6-3, 6-3 in just 77 minutes. It wasn’t that Simona wasn’t good – it’s just that Elena was far better.

Now ranked World No. 23, the reigning Adelaide International runner-up has improved her tally to 27-12 and washed away her erratic spells in the first half of the season.

Since that final run in Australia, Rybakina struggled with fitness and form woes; she spent the next several months losing in the early rounds. Nonetheless, armed with eight singles finals and a career-best ranking of #12, she has always had a solid pedigree.

She has also beaten many top players in her career like Angelique Kerber, Victoria Azarenka, Karolina Pliskova, Serena Williams, and Garbine Muguruza.

Jabeur, All Ready for the Glory

A moment like this has been long in the making for World No. 2 Ons Jabeur.

The 27-year-old, now 36-9 this year with a career-best ranking, has got a chance to add a Grand Slam to her resume. By reaching the final this week in Wimbledon, she has also become the first North African or Arab woman to do so.

Given how she has fared this season, it was bound to be that Ons made it this far in a major. She has four singles finals to her name in 2022. All are WTA 500 level or above; she won the title in Madrid and Berlin and was a runner-up in Charleston and Rome.

Moreover, she has spent a fair bit of time dealing with the elite players on the tour and handing them losses – time and again. Some of her victims include Maria Sakkari, Coco Gauff, Belinda Bencic, Halep, and Petra Kvitova.

In London, Jabeur has been phenomenal as she dropped just two sets in six matches – a surprise against Marie Bouzkova in the quarterfinal and with her dear friend Tatjana Maria in the semis.

In the preceding rounds, the Tunisian dispatched Mirjam Bjorklund, Katarzyna Kawa, Diane Parry, and Elise Mertens.

Jabeur v Rybakina Prediction and Tip

Jabeur is the clear favourite here but do not underestimate Rybakina’s chances of carving the upset; she has beaten the Tunisian once already.

However, Ons’s love and form on grass are far too prominent to ignore. She has also enjoyed a more consistent, in-form season than her counterpart. Expect an entertaining match where the number three seed should come out on the top.
