Aslan Karatsev v Lorenzo Sonego Head to Head
They played twice and Karatsev won both matches. One was this year in Sydney and Aslan won 6-2 3-6 6-2.

Karatsev’s Poor Year
Aslan Karatsev is having a very poor year so far and it’s kind of hard to pinpoint what happened. It’s not like he’s playing utterly bad, it’s more like players have figured out how to beat him and it works. It worked particularly well on clay this year where he’s a bad 1-6.
His overall record is 10-16 but on hard courts, he at least has more wins than losses. The grass season was a bad experiment for him as he won only one match, losing three. He did not take part at Wimbledon due to the ban so now he’s back to playing after a two-week break.
Perhaps it did good for him and going up against a player hes’ beaten twice in the past might prove another good thing for him. Karatsev is in desperate need of wins to build up his confidence and Sonego looks like a good candidate.
He is objectively not a better player than Sonego but both have struggled this year so it’s about the same.

Sonego Looking to Build After Wimbledon
Lorenzo Sonego has not had a very good year so far but his showing at Wimbledon has been rather positive. He did lose a match to Rafael Nadal but he was pretty good at times. A couple of wins on the grass certainly should give him a boost ahead of a return on clay where he played solid this year.
He’s 8-8 on the surface this year and 17-18 on the year. As you can see half his wins this year came on clay and that’s not by chance. He has a pretty solid game for clay courts but so much of his level depends on his confidence. There are not many players who are as streaky as him.
When things work he’s practically unbeatable. When it’s bad, its’ really bad. You never quite know what you will get from him but he’s trended upward lately.
With the Wimbledon confidence in his pocket, it’s maybe time for a strong showing on clay. The opponent is one that will give him chance to do that.
Karatsev v Sonego Prediction and Tip
So Sonego looked well on clay and Karatsev did not. Both are having a bad year but the Russian has been far worse. I think Sonego should be favoured in this match.
Yes, he lost both matches to Karatsev but in this spot, I like the Italian far better. That 1-6 from Karatsev on clay this year makes it hard to back him here. So take the Italian.
Tip: Sonego to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
