Similar to how his matches tend to be a roller coaster so has his season been so far. At times Davidovich Fokina looked like a player that would break into the top 30 this year but since then his form cooled off considerably. The grass season was a weird combination of disappointment and superb play for him.
He had a marvellous comeback against Hubert Hurkaz only to lose in the next round. Overall Fokina is a player that struggles considerably with consistency. At times he can look so good and play superb tennis while other times he barely can hit the court.
It’s been a mixed year for him with a 15-17 record overall with struggles quite pronounced lateyl. It’s hard to predict how he will play because you’re never sure but he does seem most comfortable on hard courts.
If he can find some confidence and some form he could have a deep run here. Sousa is a player he should be able to beat for the most part.

Sousa the Unpredictable
Joao Sousa is a player with a lot of talent but the Portuguese barely can find any sort of consistency. He’s plagued by the same issues Fokina is, only his are even more notable. Sousa has been playing rather poor tennis in the past couple of years.
From time to time he will find form and play a spectacular event and it happened twice this year. In Pune, he was able to lift the trophy while in Geneva he lost to Ruud in the final. It was a match where Ruud barely won despite playing at a high level.
That’s how great Sousa is when he peaks. Unfortunately, it happens very rarely for him and overall this year has been okay at 20-22. It’s quite similar to his previous years but you can never be sure what type of Sousa shows up. If it’s the good one we might see him go deep.
If not, he’ll lose to Fokina quite easily.
Davidovich Fokina v Sousa Prediction and Tip
This is one hell of an unpredictable match. Neither player is coming here in good form or with a lot of confidence. Both could win and lose this match convicingly.
There are better matches to bet so my advice would be to skip this one. If you ask me who should win. Well, Fokina, because he’s been a bit more consistent. Doesn’t say much but he’s the better player overall as well. Be careful though, it could go either way.
