French teenage sensation Diane Parry has had a wonderful season so far and she will be keen to build on it further. The outdoor clay courts in Lausanne should help her a bit in this regard.
Even though her year-to-date tally is just 14-16, it does not do justice to her 40-spot leap in the rankings to break into the top 100 and reach her career-best at #77.
Diane’s first highlight was her third-round stint in the French Open where she upset the number two seed Barbora Krejcikova and Camila Osorio to reach round three. The 19-year-old reached the same stage in Wimbledon – this time after defeating Kaia Kanepi and Mai Hontama.
Parry was also a semifinalist in the Gaiba Challenger – which certainly did well for her overall form and experience.

Bencic, Eager to Shake Off Recent Loss
Belinda Bencic, seeded second in the Ladies Open Lausanne, is coming on the heels of a shock first-round loss at the SW19 to Qiang Wang.
It was quite surprising since the Swiss enjoyed a particularly good campaign on the grass with a QF in Den Bosch and a runner-up feat in Berlin (wins over Veronika Kudermetova, and Maria Sakkari).
Nonetheless, Belinda is 26-12 as of July 12, ranked World No. 13, and has several high-profile wins. She also won the Charleston 500 back in April to lift her first title on clay – there is no reason why she can’t do it again.
As a Swiss herself, she clearly has the advantage of being a home favourite.

Bencic is definitely the heavy favourite here. She is far ahead when it comes to experience, skill, and career wins.
That said, Parry did carve the Krejcikova upset not too long ago and has some pedigree to her name – notably four ITF titles and two Challenger finals – all on clay. Backing her may lead to good returns but on the safer side, Bencic should be the way to go.
