Tsurenko Finds Form During the Grass Season
After matching her previous best at Wimbledon with a third round finish, Lesia Tsurenko returns to clay where she has a 1-2 record this season in the main draws at the tour level.
The Ukrainian, who has an overall season record of 21-11 (including qualifiers), is coming off a great grass court season, where she also made the quarterfinals in Eastbourne as a qualifier. She has done well to qualify for the main events as she made it past the qualifiers at the Australian and French Opens and also in Istanbul, Birmingham and Eastbourne.
But despite her solid showing in the qualifying rounds, she has not been able to replicate that form in the main draws.
The 33-year-old four-time WTA champion has played in Budapest thrice, but she will be making her first appearance since 2012. She has never gone beyond the Round of 16.
After a sluggish start this year, Tsurenko has found her touch on grass. Can she keep that form going on clay in Budapest?

Alves Comes Through the Qualifiers
Facing Tsurenko will be World No. 181 Carolina Alves, who made it past the qualifiers with back-to-back straight set wins.
The 26-year-old Brazilian first knocked out Russia’s Ekaterina Reyngold 6-1, 6-3 on Saturday and then on Sunday she defeated Romania’s Gabriela Lee to book a place in the main draw.
Alves, who has won all five of her ITF titles on clay, has featured in two ITF finals this year, both on clay.
She has a 28-18 overall record and 18-11 season record on clay. Playing in Budapest for the first time she will be hoping to make an early impression.
Tsurenko v Alves Prediction and Tip
