Danilovic, in her Second WTA Final
21-year-old Olga Danilovic will be pleased with her performance in Lausanne.
As a qualifier, she swept aside her competition in style – starting with Joanne Zuger and Anastasia Zakharova in the prelims. Thereafter, she beat Misaki Doi and Anna Kalinskaya to reach the quarterfinal.
In her final-eight fixture, Olga met the local favourite Simona Waltert and fought valiantly to bag the win 6-4, 4-6, 7-6(5). After that, it was more or less smooth sailing for the youngster as she dispatched Anastasia Potapova 6-3, 6-2 to reach the final.
This is Danilovic’s first such singles run since the 2018 WTA Moscow, where she won the title.
Now ranking World No. 124, Olga is now 15-5 in 2022. She had a late start to the year – competing mainly in low-tier events to build her form. That said, she did reach the second round in the French Open from the qualifying stages.
She has also got a bit of rhythm on the doubles side of things, having reached the final in Makarska Challenger.

Martic Knocks Out Garcia
World No. 85 Petra Martic just dismissed the number six seed Caroline Garcia 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 to win her first match against the Frenchwoman and reach her first WTA final since 2019.
Earlier in the tournament, she carved the upset of the tournament by beating the local favourite, number two seed Belinda Bencic 6-3, 7-6(2).
Here in Switzerland, the 31-year-old has revived herself after dismissing Nuria Parrizas-Diaz and Erika Andreeva in the preceding matches. It also follows a respectable round-of-16 appearance at Wimbledon, where she fell to the eventual champion Elena Rybakina.
This final marks a rare feat for the 31-year-old, who has spent most of the season incurring early losses.
That said, the little semblance of momentum, which she did enjoy at times, all came on clay courts. It is not particularly surprising since Martic is a clay-court specialist.
Most notably, Petra reached the second round in the Madrid Open and the third round in Rome – both as a qualifier. Earlier in the season, she was also a quarterfinalist in Indian Wells. In these tournaments, she posted impressive wins over the likes of Anett Kontaveit, Liudmila Samsonova, and Emma Raducanu.
Martic v Danilovic Prediction and Tip
Martic is far ahead in terms of experience. She has a far better pedigree (four WTA finals, five QFs in WTA 1000 and Grand Slam tournaments) than her Serbian counterpart. In all fairness, this final is hers to lose.
