Lucia Bronzetti v Xiyu Wang Head to Head

Last year on her debut in Pallermo, Lucia Bronzetti won the first two rounds to reach the quarterfinal before falling to Elena-Gabriela Ruse.
This year, she comes to the tournament with a 25-17 season record across levels. On the tour, her best this year was a semifinal finish on the clay court in Rabat. She also made it to the fourth round at the Miami Open. Having made the main draw as a lucky loser, she won the first two rounds and then got a walkover in the third round before losing in the fourth round.
At the ITF level, she won her fifth career title (and her third on clay) by winning the ITF Chiasso title in Switzerland. Bronzetti defeated Simona Waltert in the title clash to win her only title of the year.
The Italian is on a three-match losing streak. In her last three matches, she lost in the second round in Bad Homburg and in the opening rounds in Wimbledon and Lausanne. She is 9-6 on clay from all matches this year and will be hoping to improve on that record.

Wang, A Quarterfinalist in Budapest Last Week
Facing Bronzetti in the first round is World no. 102 Xiyu Wang, who is coming into the tournament in decent form.
The Chinese player defeated top seed Barbora Krejcikova and Ana Bogdan in the first two rounds in Budapest last week, but was outplayed in the quarterfinal by Aleksandra Krunić.
The 21-year-old left-hander has also shown brilliant form at the lower-level tournaments this year. She was a finalist at the WTA 125 in Valencia and reached three ITF finals in Palm Harbour, Charlottesville and Charleston, finishing runner-up in all three clay court events. Thanks to all those performances she has a 23-9 record on clay in 2022.
Overall she is 30-16 this season from all levels and will be looking to impress on her Pallermo debut.
Bronzetti v Wang Prediction and Tip
Bronzetti is the higher-ranked player but will be wary of Wang’s clay court form. Expect a tough contest with Wang edging past the local hope.
