Misaki Doi, currently ranked World No. 107, arrived in Hamburg with a tally of 5-15 and a consecutive, 10-match losing streak.
The 31-year-old has had a season to forget, as she incurred a litany of disappointing results in Lausanne, Bastad Challenger, Wimbledon, Bad Homburg, French Open, Rome, Madrid, and Miami.
What’s worth noting here is many of these defeats have come at the hands of lower-ranked players like Susan Bandecchi, Yuliya Hatouka, Mirjam Bjorklund, and Olga Danilovic. Clearly, these defeats have set a precedent for Oksana to build upon.
The last time Misaki won multiple matches in a tournament was in Adelaide in January; she made it as far as the semifinals before losing to Elena Rybakina.

Oksana, Eager to Impress
Oksana Selekhmeteva is among the next generation of Russian tennis stars who are looking to leave their mark on the WTA Tour. The 19-year-old, who is some 12 years junior to Doi, has got a good chance of doing just that in Hamburg.
Understandably, she has not had the best of the season so far as she looks to develop her form and build her experience. Nonetheless, she has been promising.
The current World No. 177 won the ITF Montpellier this month, alongside reaching the doubles final in ITF Croissy Beaubourg, Bellinzona, and Chiasso. Oksana is also a three-time Junior Grand Slam doubles finalist.
Her last tournament was in Lausanne, where she lost to Alexandra Cadantu-Ignatik in the qualifiers.
Doi v Selekhmetova Prediction and Tip
Doi is experienced and if she had some semblance of momentum to her game, she would be the heavy favourite. But that is not the case and Selekhmetova has got the perfect opportunity to strike when the iron is hot. Backing the Russian may not be the worst play to make here.
