Eva Lys, age 20, is definitely well primed for a good run in Hamburg. Having made her WTA tour debut only this season, she has certainly come a long way already and looks quite determined to go further.
The youngster is 21-14 and is armed with a series of respectable results on the circuit. In Stuttgart, she cleared the qualifiers and dismissed Viktorija Golubic in the main draw before losing to Iga Swiatek.
A few weeks later, she made it to the quarterfinal in the Karlsruhe Challenger, while last week, she reached the round of 16 in Lausanne (as a qualifier) after beating Katie Volynets and Varvara Gracheva.
Apart from this, Lys has also been playing on the ITF circuit but to little avail. She is currently ranked #179.

Carle, Working Hard
Maria Carle of Argentina started her campaign in Hamburg as a qualifier and beat the likes of Sophie Chang and Suzan Lamens in the prelims.
With this, she has now improved her tally to a remarkable 36-20 as the 22-year-old continues to work hard to build her form.
As expected, most of these wins have come on the ITF circuit in the form of a title run in Pelham and numerous late-stage appearances in other tournaments. Her resume is still slim when it comes to WTA events.
She last competed in the Budapest Grand Prix, where she lost in the opening qualifying game to Rebeka Stolmar. Before that, Carle’s other big event was Wimbledon, where she fell in the final qualifying round to Mirjam Bjorklund.
Lys v Carle Prediction and Tip
Carle has 11 ITF finals to her name, while Lys has just two. That said, the latter has had more quality matches this year and given that she is playing on home turf, she does have some advantage.
This should be an interesting match – one that can swing either way.
