Sara Sorribes Tormo v Leolia Jeanjean Head to Head
41st-ranked Sorribes Tormo will play World No. 151 Leolia Jeanjean for the first time on Wednesday.

Sara Sorribes Tormo preserved her undefeated streak in first-round matches in 2022 after coming from behind to beat Romania’s Ana Bogdan 2-6 6-4 6-2.
Sorribes Tormo had been without a main draw win in each of her previous three trips to Palermo, and it appeared that barren spell would extend this week when she was outplayed in the first set against an energetic Bogdan.
However, the Spaniard improved immeasurably, particularly on serve after dropping the first set 6-2. Her rally tolerance also helped her cause against Bogdan’s consistent weight of shots from the baseline. And given Sorribes Tormo’s healthy record in long-distance matches, there was only one winner once she wrapped up the second set to restore parity.
In the third set, the pressure got to Bogdan. And Sorribes Tormo was all over the Romanian’s serve in all her return games as she broke her twice in quick succession to romp to a 3-0 lead. Eventually, she closed out the match in two and half hours.

Jeanjean Defeats In-Albon
Leolia Jeanjean compounded Ylena In-Albon’s misery after swatting aside the Swiss entrant 6-2 6-4 in an hour and 32 minutes. In-Albon who was a late replacement for Danka Kovinic in the main draw did not have a lot of joy in a baseline battle against the French qualifier.
Jeanjean produced the perfect start to the match, taking a double break cushion and staying solid in her own service games. She closed out the set 6-2 winning 80% first-serve points.
In the second set, In-Albon tried to keep the score a little more respectable. But despite getting the break back at 2-2, she was broken almost immediately and giving away all the momentum. Jeanjean, who reached the third round of the French Open a month ago, showed her class as she won three of the next five games to reach the second round.
Jeanjean will now have the chance to reach her first quarterfinal on the WTA tour when she plays the fourth-seeded Sorribes Tormo.

Jeanjean is definitely playing better tennis than what her current ranking suggests. A career-best win over Karolina Pliskova at the French Open was a major landmark in her unheralded career, but now she has another massive chance to hit another milestone. And I suspect she might do just that.
