Carlos Alcaraz v Filip Krajinovic Head to Head

Their only meeting was on the clay courts of Umag in Croatia last year, which Alcaraz won in a tight three setter.

Alcaraz Hoping To Shrug Off Initial Rust

Coming into the season having won one ATP 250 title last year, as well as the ATP Next Gen finals, it was only a matter of time before Carlos Alcaraz became a force on the big scene, which happened to be the case this season.

Winning his second career title and his first ever ATP 500 in Rio, Alcaraz put up a strong showing at Indian Wells, where he made the semi-finals losing out closely to Rafael Nadal.

The Spaniard followed this with impressive wins at the Masters 1000 in Miami and Madrid as well as the ATP 500 title in Barcelona.

Returning to clay this month, the Spaniard was hoping for confidence boosting success before going into the North American hard court swing and then the rest of the season thereafter.

It was not the best of starts for the top seed Alcaraz where he looked out of sorts in the opening set against German wild card Nicola Kuhn, who capitalized and closed the set 6-3.

Alcaraz struck back hard in the second set running through for a 6-1 win and taking the match into the decider.

German Kuhn seemed to be struggling with an injury and needed medical timeouts in the third set, but there was no real drop in the level as the set seemed to be headed for a tiebreak after a very even set.

The Spaniard did well to increase the level when needed and closed the match with a 7-3 win in the final set tiebreak.

Alcaraz will be pleased to come through the first round, but will be looking to hit better form next round and in turn record a smoother victory.

Krajinovic Recovers From Match Points

Serbian veteran Filip Krajinovic has had a mixed season, with some good results but lacked in consistency.

There was a semi-final showing at Montpellier right after the Aussie Open, but then he hit a lull with several early round losses right through the hard court and indoor swing and into the middle of the clay season.

Both the Rome Masters 1000 and French Open saw third round exits for the Serb after early wins against the likes of Andrey Rublev and Reilly Opelka respectively.

It was a better run on the grass courts with Krajinovic making the finals at Queen’s Club being runner-up to in-form Matteo Berrettini and facing a second round Wimbledon loss to eventual finalist Nick Kyrgios.

Playing Sebastian Baez in the opener here in Hamburg, it was a clinical start for Krajinovic winning the first set 6-1, but the runner-up from Bastad last week did well to continue his good form and clinch the second 6-4.

It was an even decider heading into the tiebreak where Baez had two match points, only for Krajinovic to win four points in a row and clinch the tiebreak and the match and a second round spot.

Alcaraz v Krajinovic Prediction and Tip

Alcaraz looked a little rusty in the opener and Krajinovic defied all odds to beat in-form Sebastian Baez. Expect a tight second round match, but the Spaniard should get better with every round.

Alcaraz to win in two tight sets.
