Anna Bondar v Sara Sorribes Tormo Head to Head

This will be their first meeting on the WTA Tour.

Bondar Knocks Out Udvardy

Anna Bondar, age 25, has made it to her third consecutive quarterfinal on the tour as she looks to build momentum ahead of the hard-court swing.

So far in Palermo, the number seven seed has been fairly impressive as she knocked out Clara Burel (6-4, 6-4) and Panna Udvardy (6-2, 6-4).

Anna enjoyed a similar run last week in Budapest, where she was a semifinalist – beating the likes of Jesika Maleckova, Despina Papamichail, and Martina Trevisan en route. She ultimately lost to Bernarda Pera but did become the new World No. 50 in the process – a career-best feat for the Hungarian.

Her current results have improved her tally to 27-17; admittedly, most of those victories have come on the red dirt.

Nonetheless, a run like this can do wonders for her confidence, and Bondar certainly looks primed to reach yet another semifinal.

Tormo Storms Past Jeanjean

Number four seed Sara Sorribes Tormo had a good match in the second round as she routed Leolia Jeanjean 6-0, 6-2. It marked a good improvement over her three-set slogfest with Ana Bogdan in the WTA Palermo opener – which she ultimately won 2-6, 6-4, 6-2.

Now ranked World No. 41, Tormo is 20-12 and has had a decent year overall. The Spaniard won a doubles title in Istanbul and was a quarterfinalist in Lausanne, Madrid, Istanbul, Monterrey, and Guadalajara.

Over the season, Sara beat a few big names like Naomi Osaka, Beatriz Haddad Maia, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, and Daria Kasatkina.

Tormo also boasts of a decent clay pedigree – at least on the ITF Tour with 15 finals on the surface. She also has a career-high ranking of #32 and over $680k in prize money this year – far more than Bondar.

Bondar v Tormo Prediction and Tip

This will be an entertaining affair that can go either way. Tormo has the odds in her favour owing to her superior experience, but Bondar can punch above her weight.

It wouldn’t be surprising if this one sees far too many games.
