Zanevska Holds Off Sasnovich
It was around this time last year, when Maryana Zanevska produced her best tennis, reaching the semifinals in Lausanne and winning her maiden WTA title at the Poland Open.
One year on, she is back at her best in July. Zanevska reached her first semifinal of the year after she ousted fourth seed Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the quarterfinal on Thursday.
The World no. 72 went up a break twice in the first set, but Sasnovich managed to draw level on both the occasions, however the Belgian got a third break in the 10th game, which handed her the opening set.
Roles reversed in the second set, with Zanevska coming back from a break down thrice before breaking once again in the final game to clinch the one hour and 36 minute contest 6-4, 7-5. While Zanevska saved 4 of 9 break points in the match, she converted all 7 of the break points that she held.
It was the second tight contest that Zanevska featured in in this tournament. She had come back after losing the first set to beat Bulgaria’s Viktoriya Tomova 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 in the opening round.
She had a relatively easy second round contest, defeating Romania’s Alexandra Cadanțu-Ignatik 6-4, 6-1.

Unstoppable Pera Wins 10th Match in a Row
World No. 81 Bernarda Pera extended her unbeaten run to 10 matches as she handed Katerina Siniakova a straight sets drubbing in the quarterfinal on Thursday to enter a second straight semifinal.
Last week, Pera went from qualifiers to claiming her first WTA title by beating Aleksandra Krunić in the final of the Hungarian Open.
Having won seven matches in a row in Budapest, including the two qualifiers, she carried that form to Hamburg, reaching the semifinals without dropping a set. What’s more she has not been broken even once in the last two matches.
The 27-year-old lefty, who took down the defending champion Elena-Gabriela Ruse 6-0, 6-4 in the opening round, defeated Switzerland’s Joanne Zuger 6-1, 6-1 in the second round.
Against Siniakova, Pera won 79% points on the back of her first serve and saved both the break points that she faced. She broke the Czech once in the first and thrice in the second set to clinch the contest 6-3, 6-1 in just 70 minutes.
The American, who was also a finalist in the WTA 125 in Karlsruhe, will be looking to reach back-to-back WTA finals following a win on Friday.
Zanevska v Pera Prediction and Tip
Zanevska is the seventh seed and also ranked higher than Pera, but the latter is looking unstoppable at the moment and she should extend her winning streak to 11 matches on Friday.
