Diane Parry v Irina-Camelia Begu Head to Head

19-year-old Diane Parry, hailing from France, has just carved an incredible upset in Palermo by beating the number two seed Yulia Putintseva 6-3, 6-4. It is certainly a big win for the youngster as she finds herself in the first WTA quarterfinal of the season.
In the preceding round, she defeated Lauren Davis in straight sets. With these wins, Diane has taken her tally to 15-17 and looks poised to move up in the rankings – from her current spot at #86.
Parry can be considered a clay court specialist, given that her two Challenger finals and four ITF titles have all come on this surface. Five of those feats she achieved just last year and has since moved her focus to big-ticket events.
Of course, she still has ways to go as she looks to build her form. While most of her season has gone by in early-round/qualifying exits, she has seen some success.
Most notably, Parry reached the third round in the French Open and Wimbledon – beating players like Barbora Krejcikova, Camila Osorio, and Kaia Kanepi. She was also a semifinalist in the Gaiba Challenger.

Begu Survives Dodin
Irina-Camelia Begu found herself in yet another three-setter – this time with Oceane Dodin. Having lost the first set 1-6, she moved on to stage a comeback and take the match 6-2, 6-4.
It was a similar story in her first match in Palermo, where she played the Spanish qualifier Marina Ribera and won 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.
Irina-Camelia is certainly well-experienced and equipped to go far in Palermo. At 31 years of age and a singles ranking of World No. 45, she does make for a formidable opponent who has improved her year-to-date record to 20-13. Her season highlights include round-of-16 appearances at the French Open and Charleston Open and a semifinal feat in St. Petersburg.
Begu has also beaten a few big names this year – notably Petra Kvitova, Shuai Zhang, Jessica Pegula, and Aryna Sabalenka.
Begu v Parry Prediction and Tip
Expect an entertaining affair in this battle of generations. Begu is the odds-on favorite but Parry can surprise – especially given that the Romanian is not entirely immune to shocking defeats.
