Alcaraz Routs Khachanov
Top seed Carlos Alcaraz handed Karen Khachanov a straight sets drubbing in the quarterfinal on Friday to reach a first semifinal since the Madrid Open.
The World no. 6, who has already clinched four titles this year, is on the verge of reaching a fifth final in 2022. Three of Alcaraz’s four titles this year came on clay as he triumphed in Rio, Barcelona and Madrid. His only hard court success came in Miami.
Since claiming the Madrid Open title, Alcaraz fell in the quarterfinals at Roland Garros and could only reach the fourth round at Wimbledon.
But the 19-year-old seems to be back in stunning form. He had to work hard to get past Germany’s Nicola Kuhn in the opening round as he fought back from a set down before winning the match in the deciding set tiebreak. After surviving the opening round scare, Alcaraz then defeated Filip Krajinović in straight sets, before playing his best tennis in the quarterfinal on Friday.
Alcaraz needed just 69 minutes to dispatch Khachanov 6-0, 6-2. He wasn’t broken in the match, while he converted 5 of 11 to make quick work of the Russian.
Having upped his level, the top seed is now looking set to claim another title.

Molcan Advances Following Coric Retirement
Alex Molcan is a win away from a third final of the season, after the Slovak player advanced to the semifinals on Friday.
Molcan won a difficult first set in the tiebreak, but built a 2-0 lead in the second when his opponent Borna Coric retired with an injury.
The 24-year-old improved his season record to 21-12. Yet to win an ATP title, Molcan finished runner-up in two clay court events this year, falling to David Goffin in Marrakech and Cameron Norrie in Lyon.
In Hamburg, the World No. 48 began his campaign with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Germany’s Marko Topo in the first round and then knocked out fourth seed Pablo Carreno Busta in a three-set thriller in Round 2.
A 13-4 season record on clay is an indication of Molcan’s continued progress on the surface this year. Can the Slovak improve on that record on Saturday?
Alcaraz v Molcan Prediction and Tip
Alcaraz seems to have regained the form that saw him reach astronomical heights earlier this season. Can the Spaniard soar into a fifth final? Seems highly likely.
